Scott Bienenfeld, M.D.
Psychiatrist Scott Bienenfeld, M.D. is board certified in general and forensic psychiatry and is certified as an addiction specialist by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1992 with a degree in psychology, Dr. Bienenfeld earned his medical degree from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia in 1997. He completed a residency in general psychiatry at New York University in 2001 followed by a 1-year fellowship in forensic psychiatry at The Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. Dr. Bienenfeld has been in private practice in New York City since 2000 and now specializes in the treatment of patients with addictive disorders both in New York and Northern New Jersey.
Dr. Bienenfeld holds clinical instructorships at The New York University School of Medicine and at The Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. Dr. Bienenfeld maintains membership in The American Psychiatric Association (APA), The American Academy of Psychiatry and The Law (AAPL),The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). He is currently the Vice President of the Tri-State chapter of The American Academy of Psychiatry and The Law (Tri-State AAPL).
Dr. Bienenfeld formerly worked for The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) as Clinical Director of the Community Orientation and Re-Entry Program (CORP) Unit at Sing-Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining, New York, a program designed to transition high-risk mentally-ill offenders back into the community. He has also worked as the consulting psychiatrist to the student counseling center at Pace University in Pleasantville, NY where he focused on the identification and treatment of mental illness and addictive disorders in young adults. Dr. Bienenfeld has worked as a consulting psychiatrist for Premier Healthcare in New York City, a subsidiary of The Young Adult Institute (YAI) where he provided psychiatric care to children and adolescents with addictive, developmental and psychiatric disorders. He is currently an attending physician at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ specializing in the treatment of addictive disorders in adults with mental illness. Dr. Bienenfeld is a consulting psychiatrist for Road Recovery (www.roadrecovery.com), a nationally recognized program designed to keep teen-agers sober through music and the arts.
